Perhaps you even followed some of the challenges faced by Delhi recently as it hosted the Commonwealth Games or are watching the preparations for London to host the 2012 Summer Olympics?
You might not realise, however, that 57 countries were represented at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky earlier this year or that over half a million people attended the International Ice Hockey World Championships in Germany. There are of course different bidding processes, different funding arrangements and different organisational structures for all of these sports and their events. This is the world of sport at international level.
